Take A Page from NJ Detroit, Hire Vets to Firefight !

DETROIT, MI – North Hudson, NJ has hired 32 military veterans to become fire fighters.  Detroit has FireFightbeen awarded a $24 Million grant to hire 150 firefighters.  What better way to show that Detroit is proud of and supports our unemployed or under-employed service men and women.

It would also help to polish a very tarnished image of a city that is trying hard to make a come back.  By hiring veterans, it also would probably look really good in the eyes of the Federal Government by taking this incredible step.

On January 1, 2013, Congress passed a bill that extended the Returning Heroes and Wounded Warrior Tax Credits through December 31, 2013. The Returning Heroes Tax Credit provides incentives of up to $5,600 for hiring unemployed veterans, and the Wounded Warriors Tax Credit doubles the existing Work Opportunity Tax Credit for long-term unemployed veterans with service-connected disabilities, to up to $9,600. There is no limit to the number of qualified veterans for whom you can claim this credit.  Surely, Detroit can take advantage of these credits to stretch that grant even further.

Detroit, do the right thing and hire our eligible military veterans.  If you agree, then please ‘LIKE’ & ‘SHARE’ this article on your social media sites.  Make a ground swell happen.
