ALMA, MI – Sadly the body of 18 year old Sean Murawske has been located. It was around 12:30 today that his body was found in a field north of Alma College where he attended school. Sean, a first-year student from Harbor Beach, had not been seen since late Saturday night. More than 300 volunteers gathered at the Alma Chapel at 10 a.m. today to assist police with a coordinated search of the Alma community.
On Saturday night Murawske attended an on-campus party at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity on W. Center Street. Alma College President Jeff Abernathy issued this statement Tuesday afternoon:
With deep sadness, I write to report that Sean Murawske’s body was found by a search team today. No additional details are available at this time. The chapel is open for anyone who would like to meditate or pray, and we will hold a prayer service at 4:00 this afternoon. Please keep Sean’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
The Murawske family wanted to extend thanks to the community, the media and everyone who helped in any way with the search for Sean, who lived with his older brother, Daniel, also an Alma College student. Sean is survived by his parents and three brothers. Two of those brothers also attend Alma College.
Police are continuing to investigate the discovery. Alma Police say, right now, there are no signs of foul play. “We have no reason to believe anything other than he had, at this point and time, that he had wandered away,” said Lt. Matt Schooley, of the Alma Police Department.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
