November 7, 1990 – January 14, 2014
Jessica Lynn Joy, 23, rests secure in the loving embrace of her Savior, Jesus Christ. A tragic auto accident took her from her family on Tuesday, January 14, 2014; but she was always first and foremost a child of the King.
Jessica was born November 7, 1990, to Scott and Linda (Tracey) Joy in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Right from the start Jessica stole the hearts of her parents, as only a daughter can. Her smile, wit and sense of humor always lit up a room. She loved to laugh and often kept everyone in stitches with her antics. Music, Jessica’s greatest passion, was second only to breathing for her. From an early age, writing, composing and singing flowed from her very being. She dreamt of a career in music but also had aspirations of becoming a Veterinary Technician. Her love for animals led to the rescue of a variety of critters over the years, as well as multiple pet additions to the Joy household. Jessica loved her family and friends dearly and so enjoyed the special events when everyone gathered. She especially treasured the hugs and kisses of her sweet niece Daphne, who was just learning to call her “Auntie”.
Jessica was homeschooled until seventh grade. She then attended Muriel Clayton Middle School and George McDougall High School in Airdrie, Alberta, Canada. She graduated from Alpena High School in 2008 and also attended Alpena Community College for two years. She had currently been working as a home care aide.
Jessica is survived by her parents, Scott and Linda; brother Joshua (Jessica Leanne) of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada; sister Katelynn (Daniel) Moffatt of Alpena; grandparents David and Beverly (Johnson) Joy of Alpena and Lowell and Caroline (Hawley) Tracey of Hillman; niece Daphne Joy of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. She is also survived by uncles, aunts and cousins, too numerous to list, but dearly loved.
Jessica is at Bannan Funeral Home in Alpena, where friends may call on Sunday from 2-6 pm. Visitation will continue on Monday, 9:30 a.m., at Word of Life Baptist Church, until the time of her “Celebration Of Life” service at 11 a.m. Rev. Wade Yocum and Rev. Brad Matuzak will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made directly to the Joy family, Gideon’s International or the music ministry of Word of Life Baptist Church.
