HARPER WOODS, MI – 21 yr old Johnny Ray Honeycutt was found dead in Johnny Honeycutthis car this morning around 10:30AM from an apparent overdose from what we are being told at this time.  He was found dead in a parked vehicle in the Taco Bell parking lot near Harper and Vernier Roads in Harper Woods Saturday.

Honeycutt had been missing since Tuesday afternoon,  February 11, 2014 after he had left Indiana from visiting his father and grandparents. Honeycutt’s last real known whereabouts was at a rest area 5 miles north of the Indiana border where he sent a message to his grandmother back in Indiana letting her know that he had crossed over the Michigan border.  That message was sent around 1 PM.  About thirty minutes later his mother gets a text from the very same phone but it was from a truck driver letting her know that he had found her sons cell phone in that rest area.

Many people in the search for Honeycutt had backed away but were reluctant to say anything to the family because those that wanted to help felt not enough information or spotty information was being given.  We have since learned that Honeycutt was abusing heroin.

During the search for the young man this was posted to the Facebook Group that had been set up: “Brian L. Thompson to Faidra Page I am afraid that there is a credibility/disconnect issue that people are questioning. The biggest two that have come up in private messages to me are: 1. If he disappeared at a Michigan rest area on a State highway, where are the State Police? Why is the report with the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department and not the State Police? The State Police have jurisdiction over State highways. Secondly, if the last known place was the rest area that he was supposed to be, why would you start in Detroit searching? People are not understanding that logic. There are to many missing parts here. And people who want to help want logical answers. Its not making sense.”  Almost 7 hours later  Rob S Honeycutt posted to the same Facebook Group: “Thank you everyone for all your help but the search for Johnny Honeycutt is over. He was found dead in his car from an apparent overdose!!!”

No apparent injuries were found on Honeycutt.  Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Harper Woods Department of Safety at (313)343-2530.

A Memorial Fund has been set up to cover the costs of his funeral.  There will also be a Spaghetti Dinner on Sunday February 23, 2014 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at the American Legion, 1446 Olive Street. Indianapolis, Indiana 46203.
