Motorcyclist Dies in Shelby Township Accident (Updated)


SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MI – An accident between a SUV and a motorcyclist at 23 Mile Road and Van Dyke happened on October 26th, 2014 at about 2:45pm.

A 49-year-old motorcycle driver, John Paul Jacques, was killed in the collision with a sports utility vehicle driven by a 34-year-old woman from Livonia.




Shelby Township officers determined Jacques was driving northbound on Van Dyke when he crashed into a SUV attempting to make a left turn onto eastbound 23 Mile Road from southbound Van Dyke.

The motorcycle caught fire shortly after the crash.  Shelby Township fire crews quickly extinguished the flames.  The driver of the motorcycle, John Paul Jacques, was transported to Wm. Beaumont Hospital in Troy where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt. Police say the incident is still under investigation and have not indicated who they believe was at fault.

Beloved husband of Stacy Jacques for 23 cherished years. Proud and loving father of Cameron, Mitchell and Ava. Loving son of Norbert and Susan Jacques and son-in-law of Duane and Gwen Kotwicki. Dear brother of William (Mimi), Donald, Pam (Jim) Thomas and brother-in-law of Amy (Eric) Stoddard. Adored uncle of Dexter, Travis, Emma Jean, Charlotte and Harper.

Visitation Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 5-9 p.m. and Friday, October 31, 2014 from 1-9 p.m. at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc., 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile, Shelby Township.
