Grand Rapids Police Honor Guard to attend Wenjian Liu’s Funeral


GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The Grand Rapids Police Department will be sending representatives to the funeral of slain NYPD Officer Wenjian Liu this weekend.Grand Rapids Police

Officer Liu and Officer Rafael Ramos were shot and killed while sitting in their patrol car on December 20th, 2014.




Officer David Siver and Lt. Michael Maycroft from the departments’ Honor Guard will be attending as will Lt. Patrick Dean.

Lieutenant Dean has a special connection to New York City as this is his hometown.  He also served as an officer with the NYPD for seven years prior to coming to the Grand Rapids Police Department in 1995.  Lt. Dean’s sister Maryann, and her husband, Billy, are Sergeants for the NYPD.  His brother, Kenny, is a 2nd Grade Detective on the NYPD Bomb Squad.  His father retired from the NYPD after 38 years of service.

The officers will be attending on their own time and are participating in the Jet Blue promotion which covers the costs of air fare for officers who wish to attend the funeral.  The officer’s will be staying with Lt. Dean’s family while in New York City.

Officer Ramos’ funeral was attended by GRPD Detective David Gillem on December 27th, 2014.
