University of Michigan Student Victim of Armed Robbery


ANN ARBOR, MI – The University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security has issued a Crime Alert after a student became the victim of an armed robbery.armed_robbery1

A student reported that as he walked northeast between parking lots from NC28 to NC46 off Hayward Ave, he was approached by an unknown male who brandished a small handgun and demanded money. The student gave the man cash and the suspect fled northward on foot.

Student are reminded to:

  • Close blinds at night and keep doorwall security bars in place.
  • Keep rooms and apartments locked at all times.
  • Apartment-dwellers should turn on exterior lights at night.
  • Walk with a trusted friend or co-worker when possible.
  • Trust your intuition. If a particular situation makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, choose an alternative.
  • Have your keys in hand before you reach your vehicle or residence.
  • If you feel threatened on campus, look for a blue light emergency phone or call 9-1-1 from any phone.
