Alpena Man Charged with Murder in Drive-By Shooting

It is one of those rare occasions that the Alpena area will see a crime like the one that happened shortly after 7p.m. on Wednesday, May 13th, 2015 in the 700 block of Sable Street.  It is unclear at this time what sparked the incident.

It is alleged that Christopher Andrew Tank, 34-years-old, drove to the Sable Street address where he opened fire from his vehicle on Robert Arch, 33-years-old, of Alpena.  It is believed that Tank and Arch knew each other well.

Tank has been arrested and charged in the drive-by shooting that took the life of Arch.  Tank fled the scene immediately after the shooting.  A description of Tank and his vehicle were broadcast area wide.  He was spotted by an Alcona Sheriff’s Deputy near the intersection of M-65 and M-72 just outside of Fairview.  The deputy waited for assistance to arrive where he was then stopped and taken into custody without incident.

Tank was arraigned in 88th District Court Thursday, May 14th, 2015 in front of Judge Thomas LaCross.  Tank represented himself during the hearing and is in the process of hiring an attorney.

The suspect has been charged with:

  • Murder in the first degree – premeditated – Punishable by up to life in prison with no chance of parole.
  • Firearm discharge from a motor vehicle – Punishable by $10,000.00 and/or up to 10 years in prison.
  • Felony firearm – punishable by 2 years in prison.

Christopher Tank is being held in the Alpena County Jail.  Judge LaCross set no bond.  Within 7-14 days a preliminary hearing will be held to determine if the case will be bound over to Circuit Court.

Robert Arch was transported to Alpena Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Rob was born November 23, 1981 in Warren, MI to Mark Arch and Joy Krawczak. During his childhood he was active in sports and as an adult enjoyed playing those same sports with his children. Rob loved his children and family more than anything. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Rob is survived by three children; Alex, Mason, Anthony, two step-children; Jadin, Devin and soon to be born son, Levi, his loving companion; Stacy Phillips, his mother; Joy Krawczak (Ben Kramer), his father; John Krawczak, four siblings; Marc Arch, Kimberly Kimble, Michelle Rhoades and Heather Arch. Also surviving is his grandparents; Robert and Joanne Drumb, Aunts Raquel Bowles, Michelle Drumb, Debbie Ferraro and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
