Semi Crashes into unoccupied Home near Escanaba
BARK RIVER TOWNSHIP, MI – Michigan State Police are investigating an accident involving a semi near Escanaba in the Upper Peninsula.
At approximately 8:13 p.m. on Thursday April 13, 2017 Troopers from the Michigan State Police Gladstone were dispatched to a semi roll-over crash on M-69 between 14th Road and US2&41 in Bark River Township.
A semi was traveling eastbound on M-69 and failed to negotiate a turn. The truck left the roadway striking several trees, and a house before rolling over 1 1/2 times. The truck came to rest on its roof and the driver was trapped inside. Initial reports indicated that the truck may have been on fire, however it was later determined that there was no fire.
The driver was removed from the truck by Escanaba Public Safety/Delta County Extrication, and flown to U.P. Health Systems, Marquette by Valley Med Flight.
The home that was struck was unoccupied, but received notable structural damage. Power lines were also damaged as a result of the crash.
The driver is not being identified at this time but is from Ontario Canada.
The truck was loaded with potatoes at the time of the crash. Speed is believed to be a significant factor in the crash, which remains under investigation at this time.
