37 yr old Man Killed in Fatal Car-Pedestrian Crash in Monroe County
FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP – Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone is reporting a fatal car-pedestrian traffic crash that occurred on Friday, April 14th, 2017, at approximately 10:15 PM, on North Telegraph Road, south of Newport Road, in Frenchtown Township.
A preliminary investigation revealed that April L. Osterdock, age 49, of Flat Rock, MI, was driving a gray 2010 Chevrolet Malibu, while traveling northbound in the right lane of North Telegraph Road. While northbound, Ms. Osterdock struck pedestrian Jason L. Bartel, age 37, of Newport, MI, who was reportedly standing in the right lane of North Telegraph Road, facing traffic.
Jason Bartel suffered serious injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ms. Osterdock, who was not injured in the crash, was wearing a safety belt at the time of the incident.
Neither speed nor alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
Monroe Community Ambulance and the Frenchtown Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by Deputies Jeremy Peters and James Liedel of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Services Division, along with Deputy David Raymond of the Traffic Services Division. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 734-240-7711.
