48 yr old Gladwin Man Killed in Fatal Off Road Crash in Roscommon County


BACKUS TOWNSHIP, MI – The Michigan State Police (MSP) Houghton Lake Post investigated a fatal rollover crash that occurred on Trail 6 at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, April 16th, 2017 in Backus Township of Roscommon County.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the heavily modified Jeep Wrangler (off road only) lost control upon striking a tree along the trail. The vehicle rolled over and all four occupants were ejected.




All four occupants were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The 27-year-old male driver from Cedar had non-life threatening injuries. A 21-year-old female passenger from Gladwin had non-life threatening injuries. A 51-year-old female passenger from Gladwin is in critical condition and a 48-year-old Male passenger from Gladwin succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates seatbelts were not being worn at the time of the crash and that alcohol is believed to be a factor. The incident is under investigation. No further information is available for release at this time.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Denton Township EMS.
