MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI – On Thursday, April 20th, 2017, at approximately 5:15 am, Macomb County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the 15000 block of Aspen in Macomb Township for a vehicle break in report.
As Deputies spoke with the victim, Dispatch aired several more vehicle break in reports in the same area of Tilch Rd, between Hall Rd. and 21 Mile Rd. Deputies responded to 4 complaints in total.
During one of the vehicle break-ins, the garage door opener was accessed to gain entry to the resident’s garage. Several items including knives, tools, and a flashlight were stolen.
Deputies canvassed the area and located several more vehicles in the vicinity with open doors and trunks. A Macomb County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Deputy arrived in the area to assist with a track. This track led to Daniel Soper, 28-years-old, running through backyards in the area of Aspen Dr. and Winter Park Dr. Soper was stopped by a Sheriff’s Deputy who questioned him as to why he was running in wet and muddy clothing. Soper was unable to provide a clear answer and was found in possession of items stolen from several of the vehicles reporting a break in. One of the stolen and recovered items was a 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
Soper was uninjured, taken into custody, and then lodged at the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.
On April 21, 2017, Soper was arraigned in the 41-A District Court of Shelby Township. He is charged with First Degree Home Invasion, Larceny of a Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle. He was given a $10,000.00 bond and is scheduled to be back in court on May 4, 2017.
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate these incidents and requests that anyone with further information, including video or found property, contact the Detective Bureau at 586-307-9358.
