Body of Missing Man from Oceana County found in Wexford County Positively Identiifed

SOUTH BRANCH TOWNSHIP, MI – Michigan State Police located human remains on public property in South Branch Township on Tuesday March 28th, 2017.

A K-9 unit located the remains at about 1:00 p.m as part of the extensive search that was underway for a man who had been reported missing out of Oceana County by the name of James Hepworth.

Hepworth’s body was located about a mile away from where his vehicle had been found. Hepworths vehicle was located near Dobson Bridge in Wexford County three days after he had been reported missing in August of 2016.

His remains were sent to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing where a forensic autopsy was performed. Michigan State University Forensic Biology Laboratory examined DNA from the remains of James Hepworth.  They were then compared to known familial DNA that had been collected from his family.  Through that process, the human remains were positively identified as those of James Hepworth.
