Crash caused by Wrong way Driver on Belle Isle


DETROIT, MI – On Saturday May 13th, 2017, at approximately 7:40 p.m., Michigan State Police Detroit Regional Dispatch Communication Center started receiving calls about a multi-vehicle crash that occurred on Belle Isle.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the female driver of a passenger vehicle was traveling the wrong way going northbound on Fleming Street and attempted to turn the wrong way onto Central Avenue at a high rate of speed.




The vehicle struck the concrete barrier on the opposite side of Central Avenue, lost a front wheel and then bounced back to the other side of Central Avenue again striking the concrete barrier.

The driver sustained minor injuries and both passengers received serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation by the Metro South Post.
