Lapeer County Man Killed in Farm Tractor Accident

COLUMBIAVILLE, MI – On Friday May 19th, 2017, at 1:20 PM, Lapeer County 911 dispatched Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies, Columbiaville Fire Department, and Marathon Township Fire Responders to an injury traffic crash within the 5000 block of Wilson Road in Columbiaville (Marathon Township).

It was reported that a utility farm tractor rolled over on the operator.

A pick-up truck was stuck within a muddy field on private property. Raymond Doughty, 77-years-old, from Otisville, lived within the area and owned a farm utility tractor.   Doughty was contacted by the pick-up truck owner and agreed to assist.

Doughty operating a midsize (approximately 40 to 60 horsepower) older vintage Farmall tractor connected to the front of the pick-up truck with a chain.   The tractor traveled forward while attempting to free the truck from the mud.   The tractor which was not equipped with a roll bar subsequently rolled over backwards pinning Doughty beneath.

Doughty was pronounced dead at the scene.

Columbiaville Fire Department and Yakes Towing Service in North Branch extricated Doughty from beneath the tractor.

This appears to be an unfortunate tragic event that remains under investigation by the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office.
