Alpena County Sheriff recovers Personal Watercraft on Lake Huron After Heavy Storms


ALPENA, MI – On Thursday July 6th, 2017, at 4:35 p.m., the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit responded to a call of a boat drifting on Lake Huron, south of Middle Island.

Upon arriving on scene, deputies located a heavily damaged, and partially submerged 2017 Sea-Doo personal watercraft. Deputies were able to determine the owner of the personal watercraft had earlier been boating on Lake Huron on a 70 foot yacht and encountered a severe storm. The personal watercraft, which was attached to the 70 foot yacht, was swept off the deck of during the storm. The owner was unable to recover the personal watercraft and returned Presque Isle Harbor.




The Sheriff Office Marine Unit towed the personal watercraft to Rockport State Park where the owner arranged transportation back to Presque Isle Harbor. There were no injuries but the 2017 Sea-Doo appears to be a total loss.
