Berrien County Road Commission Weighmaster involved in pursuit and Crash


WATERVLIET, MI – On Tuesday July 11th, 2017, at approximately 1215pm, Berrien County Weighmaster Goulooze stopped a vehicle for disregarding a traffic control device.

While having contact with the driver, the driver fled from the stop, dragging the officer along. The officer was able to free himself and return to his patrol car. He pursued the suspect North on County Line Rd. The weighmaster lost control of his patrol vehicle on 70th St near 48th Ave. The patrol vehicle ran off of the roadway and over turned.




The officer sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released. He is expected to fully recover.

The suspect vehicle was located abandoned shortly afterward and it was learned the suspect had fled on foot into a wooded area in Van Buren County. A Berrien County K9 located the suspect, a 42-year-old man, from Watervliet, hiding in the woods. He was arrested for Fleeing and Eluding, OWI 3rd Offense and DWLS 2nd Offense.

Troopers were assisted by Van Buren and Berrien Sheriff, Watervliet PD, Covert PD and the Pokagon Tribal PD.
