Troy Police Investigate Fatal Car Accident in Parking Lot


TROY, MI – Troy Police are investigating a fatal accident that led to the death of a 90 year old Berkley man on Monday at approximately 1:15 PM in the parking lot at 4600 Investment, Troy.

The man was ejected from and run over by his own vehicle.




Investigators believe that the man parked his vehicle and was attempting to turn off the vehicle via a push button start, with the driver side door open. The car subsequently accelerated in reverse into four parked vehicles. At this time, the man was ejected and run over by his car.

The driver is identified as Richard Blanchard. He was the single occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time he was ejected. Mr. Blanchard was at the location for an appointment.

Medical staff from a nearby office responded to the scene and rendered aid until first responders from Alliance Mobile Health arrived. Mr. Blanchard was pronounced dead at the scene. The Oakland County Medical Examiner responded to the scene as well.

The crash remains under investigation and no further information as to the cause is available at this time. Witnesses are asked to contact the Troy Police Department at 248-524-3477.
