5 yr old child and 35 yr old woman Killed in Fatal Car Wreck in Monroe County

SUMMERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone is reporting a multi vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred on US-23, north of Summerfield Road, in Summerfield Township.

Preliminary investigation reveals that Todd M. Moyer, 27-years-old, of Holt, MI was driving a 2007 Dodge Ram pick-up truck southbound on US-23, in the left travel lane, north of Summerfield Road,  when he became distracted.

While in motion, Mr. Moyer struck the rear of a 2010 Hyundai Elantra being operated by a 35-year-old Ohio woman having a 5-year-old rear passenger, also from Ohio.

The female Ohio driver was then forced into the rear of a 2004 Toyota Solara being operated by Chase K. Miller,  20-years-old, of Findlay, OH as both vehicles came to rest. Mr. Moyer, however, was still in motion then striking the rear of a 2012 Cadillac CTS being driven by Michael E. Huffer, 68-years-old, of Troy, MI along with his front seat passenger, Patricia Huffer, 67-years-old, also of Troy.

The 35-year-old Ohio woman, along with her 5-year-old passenger, were both pronounced deceased at the scene. All other parties involved refused medical treatment and were released. At the time of the traffic crash, all drivers and passengers were wearing safety belts. The use of alcohol is not a factor.

The Summerfield Township Volunteer Fire Department, Monroe Community Ambulance and the Michigan State Police assisted at the scene. The traffic crash remains under investigation by Deputies Brian Quinn, David Raymond and Nick Burkhart of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Bureau along with Deputy Jeff Corie of the Sheriff’s Office Uniformed Services Division.
