Medical Emergency may have been cause to Fatal Oakland Crash


COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, MI – Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Commerce Township Fire Department responded to a single motor vehicle crash in the 400 block of Oakley Park Rd on Friday July 14th, 2017 at 8:41 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters from the Commerce Township Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to extricate the 63 year old male driver, who was a resident of Commerce Township. Deputies requested to have the OCSO Crash Reconstruction Unit respond to the scene to assist them with the investigation.




The investigation revealed that prior to the crash the driver had veered off of the roadway to the right, had struck a ditch, two traffic control signs and then a large tree. The victim was transported to Beaumont Hospital – Farmington Hills where he was pronounced deceased by an Emergency Room physician. The driver may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash.

Alcohol use does not appear to have been a factor in the crash and it is unknown if the driver was wearing his seat belt. The crash remains under investigation.
