Illinois will start issuing marriage licenses to gay couples on June 1st, 2014. However, a lesbian couple who have been together for 5 years are going to become the first gay couple to be issued a marriage license due to one of the women having terminal cancer.

Seeking immediate action and relief, the emergency suit was filed by Lambda Legal and the ACLU of Illinois on behalf of the two women.
