DETROIT, MI – Detroit can hopefully put the corrupt years of the Kilpartick Administration in the rear view mirror with the announcement today that former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is now cooling his heels in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma according to the Bureau of Prisons.
Kilpatrick requested to serve his sentence in a federal prison in Texas so that he could be near his wife and children. His departure from Michigan to Oklahoma is a layover of sorts in the prison system.
Residents of Detroit and Michigan are definitely not sorry to know that he has left the state. Kwame Kilpartick’s stint as mayor caused such harm to a city that was already struggling so hard. His corrupt administration brought Detroit to its knees. He and boy pal Bobby Ferguson took the metro area for a financial ride the likes of Detroit had never experienced before.
Judge Nancy Edmunds sentenced Kilpatrick to 28 years in federal prison for his convictions on racketeering, bribery, extortion, mail and wire fraud, and tax crimes.
There are some loose ends to tie up in all those that were involved in the city hall corruption but the lynch pin to the whole problem has now left the state. Bobby Ferguson has another trial coming up that will more than likely add even more time on this his stay behind bars. One can only hope
