MARICOPA COUNTY, AZ – Infamous for his Inmate Tent City and inmates having to wear pink underwear has cracked down once again. Sheriff Joe Arpaio is sending a punishment through 6 jails in his control after inmates in the Arizona jails have desecrated U.S. flags that hang in their cells. Arpaio has placed the inmates on bread and water twice daily. The punishment will last seven days. A second offense will get another 10 days added.
“These inmates have destroyed the American flag that was placed in their cells. Tearing them, writing on them, stepping on them, throwing them in the toilet, trash or wherever they feel,” Arpaio said in a statement. “It’s a disgrace to those who have fought for our country.”
A spokesman for the American Civil Liberties Union in Arizona, called the move a “publicity stunt.”
Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napolean could certainly learn some lessons from Sheriff Joe.
