ALPENA, MI – Originally it was known as the Kentucky Motor Inn. It then became Hunan Chinese Restaurant for many years. Once the Hunan moved out to the old Best Western Four Seasons Inn on M-32 West, the building went through many months of renovations. Residents waited patiently while the opening date of Los Cuatro Amigos kept being pushed back. Finally after many many months of waiting it was open. Business appeared to be steady in the beginning. But then it was very noticeable that the parking lot was remaining empty for the lack of customers.
For those who honestly love and enjoy great Mexican food, this restaurant was lacking. It only took one trip to get a to go order and it was obvious that if this establishment were to make a go of it in the area, it would need to step up its game. The Beef & Cheese Enchiladas were more than substandard. They were bland and had very little cheese.
The staff also was not engaged in making guests welcome even if it were a to go order that they were taking care of. It is really no surprise that the only things left are the nicely renovated building, the Los Cuatro Amigos marquee and a For Rent sign in the window. For a restaurant that touted authentic Mexican food, it needed to first take lessons from Mexican Fiesta in Dearborn Heights, MI.
The staff at Mexican Fiesta is on top of their game. The food is outstanding ! The restaurant is clean and inviting. The tortilla chips come to your table hot. There are 3 different Salsa’s to use with those chips. Very mild, Hot and what we will call Your On Fire ! If you would like to see, taste and feel what a great Mexican restaurant is all about, Mexican Fiesta has two locations:
24310 Ford Road Dearborn Hgts, MI 48127 313.274.3066
44401 Ford Road Canton, MI 48187 734.981.1048
Mexican Fiesta has been around 50 years. As long as they do not change their foods that they serve and maintain the staffing, they will be around for another 50. You will find no better.
