BAY CITY, MI – This is an update about Shakeyra Kohler, Jeff Mahaffy

Shakeyra Kohler

Shakeyra Kohler

and Kyle Kohlhoff.

First it must be said with great emphasis that there are no high five’s, cheering, pats on the back to be had when its comes to having written three articles about individuals who are addicted to drugs.  The articles were written to shine a bright white light on those whose lives have seriously taken a wrong left turn and what its does to them and those that it affects.

Compassion has always been the base to all of this even if it was not seen as such at times.  Many times it takes a different tough love to get a desired result.  Some times even the family of a drug abuser needs to have the veil ripped down from their eyes to see truths that are ugly and painful.

Earlier this evening it was learned that Shakeyra Kohler and an assumption is being made that Kyle Kohlhoff as well are indeed in treatment and getting the help that they so need.

Jeff Mahaffy, Shakeyra Kohler’s boyfriend and father to her two children and unborn child, from all accounts, had been jailed for 3 days and was released yesterday to the streets again.  We have not been able to confirm that Jeff was actually in jail but we will believe that he was for arguments sake.

It also must be noted that Jeff Mahaffy’s father is a man who has been dealing

Jeff Mahaffy

with his son’s drug addiction for several years now.  Mr. Mahaffy is a lovely man to get to know and to speak to.

It was advised that Mr. Mahaffy seek counseling through the Michigan Narcotics Anonymous group to help him understand and to be able to better cope with this illness that his son and others have.  We all should want and need to help protect a gentlemen such as Mr. Mahaffy.  It is with great hope that he reaches out to this group for support and healing.

For those who have been following this story, please pray that this is a turning point in several lives.  Unless something further of any magnitude develops, this will be the final article written to this story.

The previous three articles that were written and published will be taken down from public view as had been promised to the families once positive movement was confirmed with these souls.  However, if it is found that these three are back to square one and running a muck, the original articles will be put back in public view and will remain there.

Please also be aware that there are individuals on our streets who do hold signs that are honestly in need of assistance.  It is your doing and choice of how you help them.  You have to make that a personal decision.  It is recommended that you donate to local reputable organizations instead of providing immediate cash assistance on the street corners.  Violence toward anyone is never advocated as some have wanted to do.

We are working to compile an article about those who are addicted to drugs, if they are in recovery, and where they are at in theirs lives with this illness.  Parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, friends are also welcome to submit their stories to be included in that article.  You can remain anonymous as long as you let us know when you submit your information that you do not want your name printed.  Please submit your story to by Friday, March 21st, 2014.

We will end this here with high hopes and many prayers from all of us who have been watching, reading, waiting, that Shakeyra Kohler and Kyle Kohlhoff are in a safe environment where they can push the reset button on life and start anew. It is also hoped that once they set an honest path to recovery that they will contact us and let us know how they are doing.  It would be wonderful to publish a very happy ending to a story that just seemed to get more sad.

Jeff Mahaffy, please seek the help you need.  It is there for the taking.  Reach out young man before it is way to late.  This is your chance to get it right.

Sending my best wishes that they stay in treatment and get the help they need. Recovery is a long and hard process, but it is achievable. Those kids need their mother and she needs to be clean and sober if she wants to be there for them. I would love to be able to read a follow up a year from now and hear from Shakeyra that even though she faced a lot of criticism and made a lot of horrible choices, the articles written about her caused her to see the light and she was able to change her life around. I wish the best for Kyle also. And to Jeff if you read this, please seek help!!! It is being offered to you and your life depends on it. Be a man and go get clean for you and for your children.

  6. Try to get her kids back.

Sorry about messing that up. Got to love spell check.Lol

  7. May God be with them. I hope and pray that they go throw the hole treatment, and stay clean. I also hope that she gets her head together, and stop talking to Jeff. She needs to go back to get family and get her life together, stay clean, and Teri to get her

I am so happy to hear Shakeyra and Kyle are trying to make a change for the better and I really hope they do this! It is never too late to start over, I have been there myself and I am so glad I made the change, it's tough but so worth it!
