Detroit Councilmen Being Sued for $56,000

DETROIT, MI – City Council’s president pro tem George Cushingberry-1 continues to make headlines and once again not for the right reasons.

George Cushingberry and his wife, Maria Drew Cushingberry, are being sued by Public Service Credit Union on allegations that they stripped a home at 8625 Marygrove Street and removed its kitchen cabinets and fixtures.  All to the tune of a whopping $56,000.  The credit union claims they “willfully and maliciously” damaged the foreclosed home.

Of course their attorney has already made statements that scrutiny of the newly elected councilman has been unfair and that the timing of the damage to the home was unfortunate.

Mayor Mike Duggan and Detroit City Council President last week targeted the Marygrove area for their Rebuiding Detroit program.  The Cushingberry home was one of the first to get slapped with a warning of legal action.  The property is no longer owned by the Cushingberry’s. The Cushingberry’s lost the house to foreclosure in January 2013.  At that time more than $168,000 was due based on a legal notice was that was published.  That would bring the total of what Cushingberry and his wife owe just to Public Service Credit Union to $224,000 if the credit union wins the lawsuit.

George Cushingberry’s legal troubles continue to be popping up and more are to come.  MIHeadlines.com is also noting that George Cushingberry’s Facebook page has been taken down.
