Detroit Police Department Working the Streets


DPD CarsDETROIT, MI – Chief James Craig and the officers from the Detroit Police Department have been working the streets and are making progress when it comes to combating crimes in the city.

The men and women that serve in the City of Detroit need everyone’s cooperation to bring crime down and under control to make the city a much safer place to live, work and play.

Here are recent events that have taken place and the results that are happening:

SIGNIFICANT EVENTS – April 22, 2014

1st Precinct

Location: 3400 block of 2nd St.

Date/Time: 4/22/14 1:25 p.m.

CIRCUMSTANCES:

On Tuesday April 22, 2014, Officers from Narcotics conducted a raid at an apartment building in the 3400  block of 2nd Street. Officers arrested one Suspect and confiscated 13 packs and 1 sandwich bag of heroin. The Suspect was arrested and transported to the Detroit Detention Center for processing without incident.

12th Precinct

Location: 16800 block of San Juan

Date/Time: 4/22/14 2:15 p.m.

CIRCUMSTANCES:

On Tuesday April 22, 2014, Officers from the 12th precinct were giving special attention to the area for narcotic activity.  The Officers observed a Suspect exit a vacant house, when the Suspect looked towards officers, he fled through the backyard. The Officers pursued the Suspect and observed him throw a pistol into another backyard. The Suspect was captured and the handgun was recovered. During a search of the Suspect, Officers also confiscated 18 bags of suspected crack-cocaine. The Suspect was arrested and conveyed to the Detroit Detention Center for processing.

12th Precinct

Location: 8 Mile/Cherrylawn

Date/Time: 4/22/14 6:40 p.m.

CIRCUMSTANCES:

On Tuesday April 22, 2014, undercover Officers from the 12th precinct were on surveillance and they observed a narcotic transaction take place. The Officers arrested 2 Suspects and recovered 1 large bag of suspected crack-cocaine. Both Suspects were taken to the Detroit Detention Center without incident.

2nd Precinct

Location: 11600 block of Hartwell

Date/Time: 4/22/14 8:30 p.m.

CIRCUMSTANCES:

On Tuesday April 22, 2014, Officers from the 2nd precinct were on patrol, when they observed a 2003 Silver Dodge playing loud music. As the Officers turned their scout car around to effect a traffic stop, they saw the front passenger (Suspect) throw a pistol out the window. The Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested the Suspect. The firearm was recovered and the Suspect was taken to the Detroit Detention Center for processing.

6th Precinct

Location: Braile/Westfield

Date/Time: 4/22/14 9:25 p.m.

CIRCUMSTANCES:

On Tuesday April 22, 2014, Officers from the 6th precinct were on patrol when they observed a Suspect walking in the street where sidewalks are provided. When the Officers approached the Suspect, he fled on foot. The Officers pursued him and observed him holding a handgun in his hand while running. The Suspect jumped over a fence and landed on his face, dropping the gun. The Officers apprehended the Suspect and recovered the weapon. The Suspect was arrested and conveyed to the Detroit Detention Center for processing without further incident.
