ALPENA, MI – On this cool grey,morning bulldozers were noticed to be clearing the land that will soon become the new Meijer in Alpena on M-32.
A welcome sight can be seen as construction has begun for the new 192,000 square foot Meijer Super Center. The official groundbreaking for the project is to take place on May 1st, 2014 and construction completed in April 2015.
Rockford Construction of Grand Rapids will oversee the construction process. Team Elmers of Alpena is also involved in the project. This construction project will be one of the largest that Alpena has seen in some time.
The new store, which is being built on the south side of M-32, is the largest of the stores Meijer builds and will include a gas station that will sit in front of the store. The entrances to the store will be on Bagley Street between Walgreens and the Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union and the other directly across from the eastern entrance of Walmart.
Meijer Corporation has also received approval to have a new traffic signal installed at the main entrance to the new store on M-32.
