Child Porn was Made at Former Kent County Day Care

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – 22 yr old Travis Charles Stiehl has been arraigned in 63rd District TRAVIS CHARLES STIEHLCourt on four child pornography charges.

Police first came in contact with Travis Stiehl in December of 2013.  His mother operated a licensed day care out of her home.  Travis Stiehl lived with his mother.

Child pornography was found on his computer inside the Lowell-area home.

The license for that day care was revoked in December of 2103 as soon as the investigation learned of what had happened in the home.  His mother refused to kick him out because he had no other place to go.

He has made statements that she was unaware of what was going on and that he is “sorry”.

Travis Charles Stiehl was arrested on April 25th, 2014 at an AutoZone store where he was working at full time. Stiehl is being held in the Kent County Jail on a $250,000 bond. Stiehl is due back in court for a hearing on May 9. In addition to the charges in Kent County, officials say federal charges will likely come down sometime next week. Manufacturing child pornography is a felony punishable by 20 years in prison.

The arrest was the result of a joint investigation between the Michigan State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations.

Stiehl is accused of making three videos of unclothed, prepubescent boys for the purposes of sexual gratification.

Homeland Security Investigators are asking anyone with information about Stiehl to contact the Grand Rapids office at 616.235.3936 ext. 2215 or the MSP ICAC at 616.866.6675.
