ALPENA, MI – ALDI Corporation recently made a request to the Alpena Road Commission to approve a permit so the company could install a new driveway on Bagley Street. That permit was denied.
The projected site of the driveway is between the EZ-Mart gas station and R.A. Townsend companies on Bagley Street.
The company already owns an access piece of property from the rear of the Staples store to Bagley. This would be an additional access since one exists on M-32. The company was asked to submit an independent traffic impact study to the road commission with their request. The road commission looked at the study and decided to deny the request based on that information.
Not everyone is familiar with what ALDI is. ALDI is a global discount supermarket chain based in Germany. The earliest roots of the company trace back to 1913. ALDI is a direct competitor to Save-A-Lot. ALDI would be another welcome addition to the community. ALDI has several locations in Michigan.
A request to ALDI Corporation has been submitted for further information about their plans in the area.
It is obvious from recent property sales activity in the area of M-32 and Bagley, that new business will grow very quickly. A large parcel of property was just sold through Banner Realty between the strip mall and Goodwill on Bagley. No word as of yet what will be built there.
