ALPENA, MI – The property for the new Meijer Superstore in Alpena has made dramatic changes in the past couple of weeks since ground breaking took place.
The rough entrance to the store on Bagley is in place. The storage tanks for the gas station on M-32 are also in place. Team Elmers of Alpena and Rockford Construction have a great deal of equipment on site to get the job done.
Expansion into new markets beyond Alpena is what Meijer is achieving. Meijer also announced today that they will break ground for a second store in Detroit. Construction will take place on the site of the former Redford High School at 21431 Grand River in far northwest Detroit in the Brightmoor/Old Redford district. Construction on that new store is expected to take about a year. Meijer opened a superstore at Woodward and 8 Mile in Detroit last July as part of the Gateway Marketplace.
Based in Grand Rapids, Meijer is a family-owned company with more than 200 stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.
