Transforming Old McCoy Pontiac Cadillac Building in Alpena

ALPENA, MI – The former McCoy Pontiac Cadillac dealership building at the corner of 3rd and Alpena General StoreWashington Avenue is being transformed into ‘The Alpena General Store’.  Work can already be seen to be taking place on the inside of the building.

Plans have been approved to develop the former car dealership building into a convenience store.

The building became vacant after the auto dealership moved to its new Alpena GMClocation at the corner of US-23 North and Johnson Street.

The owners of the dealership purchased the Alpena Civic Center property, had that structure torn down and a new auto store built in its place.  The dealership is now known as Alpena Buick GMC.  It was uncertain what would become of the building or property after the dealership relocated.

Scott McQuarrie of Ossineke, Michigan plans to transform the old building into a store that will offer a full meat market featuring both commercial and farm fresh meats from local farms in the area.

McQuarrie also plans to offer hardware and landscaping supplies.  Future plans also call for an outdoor supply department with full hunting and fishing supplies, including propane sales.

His choice of location is a good one.  There is ample parking for future customers. The closest store to the location is Save-A-Lot.

If done properly, this could be a tremendous asset to the downtown area and surrounding  neighborhoods.
