GAYLORD, MI – Authorities in Gaylord are investigating the explosion of a possible meth lab in a storage unit that injured a 36 year old man.
The Gaylord City Police around 4 a.m. Saturday morning were called by Otsego Memorial Hospital staff after the man had drove himself to the hospital seeking treatment.
The explosion happened at the Sled Shed Storage located at 2646 S. Otsego Avenue in Gaylord. The blast was extensive enough to cause the back wall and two side walls to be blown from the storage unit. It also caused damage to the garage door and framing of the unit.
The 36 year old Gaylord man is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. He has been transferred to a downstate burn unit for his injuries. If he survives his injuries, he will be arrested for manufacturing methamphetamine according to Gaylord Police Chief Brett McVannel.
The Gaylord City Police department was assisted by Otsego County EMS, Region7 Haz Mat Team, Otsego County Fire Department, Region 7 Meth Lab Disposal Team and Michigan State Police Gaylord Post.
