Michigan State Police say two people have been arrested for an illegal marijuana grow operation at the location.
The search is taking place at a house near Wales Center and Marquette roads in St. Clair County. The home is located 15 miles northeast of Armada. A 66 year old registered sex offender is registered at that address being searched.
Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw stated in a report yesterday “We are pretty confident that we are zeroing in on the person who did this and the person knows that as well.”
According to records James Bernard Vancallis was convicted out of Mount Clemens 16th Circuit Court of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13, and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person between 13 and 16 in 1995.
At 3 p.m. Wednesday, an older, white male was seen being led out of the home by the FBI in handcuffs.
Neighbors in the area have been telling media that the 30 year old son rides a blue and white motorcycle and that they have not seen him ride it in the past several days. Police have been seeking information about a small blue and white CC motorcycle with a young male rider wearing a black helmet seen riding on the trail around the time of the murder.
“I can say that there is news and it will be released soon,” Debbie Shanta, friend of April’s mother, told The Armada Times on Wednesday. “That’s all I can say. It is good news.”
Several search warrants are being executed at this time. Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw has stated investigators are executing multiple search warrants at locations but was not specific about details.
The Armada Homicide Task Force has been working around the clock since April’s body was found last Thursday night on the Macomb Orchard Trail, but their investigation is now narrowing in its focus, said Shaw.
Investigators ask anyone with tips on the killing of April Millsap or the identity of the person of interest in the case to contact them at 877-616-4677 or www.michigan.gov/michtip.
