Alpena Woman Facing Several Charges in Cheboygan County


CHEBOYGAN, MI – 56 year old Joyce Whitlow of Alpena is facing several police chasecharges in Cheboygan county after a July 16th, 2014 incident that involved a multiple police agency chase.

Charges against Whitlow are: Felony Fleeing and Eluding Third Degree which carries a possible 5 year sentence, Resisting  and Obstructing which carries a possible 2 year sentence and a misdemeanor charge of Reckless Driving which carries a possible 93 day sentence.

Whitlow is accused of running vehicles off the road on M-68 near I-75 Cheboygan County. A deputy assisted by a Tuscarora Township Police Department car intercepted the vehicle.  She reached speeds as high as 90 miles per hour and refused to stop her vehicle.

She drove the vehicle west on M-68 through Indian River to Alanson.  Witlow then struck another vehicle in Conway before coming to rest on the shoulder of US-31 near Conway Rd.

Whitlow then exited her vehicle and attempted to walk away but was quickly apprehended.

She has been arraigned on the charges this week in Cheboygan’s 89th District Court and pleaded not guilty.  A preliminary exam for Whitlow is set for August 11th, 2014.  Her bond was set at $10,000.

Whitlow was involved in another pursuit in Gaylord in 2011 and was referred to a mental hospital at that time.
