ARMADA, MI – At the time of her murder and subsequent autopsy, authorities were not releasing how 14 year old April Millsap was killed. The only information that was released at that time was that there were no apparent signs of trauma, including gunshot or knife wounds. Disturbing new details have been revealed.
Today we have learned that April did not have a chance whatsoever. She was attacked violently and quickly. April was beaten and strangled to death.
No arrests have been made in this murder that happened in a quiet village 35 miles north of Detroit. Local police, Michigan State Police and the FBI have all been very involved in the investigation working around the clock on leads.
April Millsap was discovered in the evening on Thursday, July 24th, 2014 murdered near the Macomb Orchard Trail. She was found in a drainage ditch about 10 to 15 feet off of trail. The young girls body was located in the area of Fulton and Depot roads at 8:25 p.m.
According to police, the teenager went to walk her dog between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and did not return home. Her border collie, Penny, stayed with April until she was found by passing joggers.
The medical examiners report states that April died from Blunt Force Trauma to the head and Asphyxia due to neck compression. That means whomever killed her acted quickly.
The death certificate was filed today in the Macomb County Clerk’s Office. The death certificate states that the approximate interval between onset and death was minutes and lists her manner of death as a homicide.
Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw said authorities were not releasing any new information at this time. This is not uncommon in such a high profile case.
