ARMADA, MI – Michigan State Police are indicating that a 32-year-old Wales Township man, James VanCallis Jr. is considered a person of interest in the death of a 14 year old April Millsap.
Investigators executed a search warrant in July on a home located at 8744 Marquette Road in Wales Township, Michigan where they arrested a father and son on drug charges.
Arrested were James Bernard VanCallis, 66, and James Donald VanCallis, 32, on those drug charges.
Police executed a 2nd search warrant on properties in Goodells, Michigan yesterday, August 18th, 2014, looking for evidence and clues into the murder of 14 year old April Millsap.
The search warrant is sealed and police are not releasing very many details concerning the search of those properties. They searched barns and fields alike with great intensity. Those properties are within proximity of 8744 Marquette Road.
Authorities today are naming James VanCallis Jr. as a “person of interest” in connection to the murder of 14 year old April Millsap.
According to records James Bernard Vancallis, Sr., was convicted out of Mount Clemens 16th Circuit Court of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13, and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person between 13 and 16 in 1995.
No arrests as of yet have been made in this murder that happened in a quiet village 35 miles north of Detroit. Local police, Michigan State Police and the FBI have all been very involved in the investigation working around the clock on leads.
April Millsap was discovered in the evening on Thursday, July 24th, 2014 murdered near the Macomb Orchard Trail. She was found in a drainage ditch about 10 to 15 feet off of trail. The young girls body was located in the area of Fulton and Depot roads at 8:25 p.m.
