SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MI – Residents of this community are expected to show in droves tonight at an emergency town hall meeting to voice their concerns and issues about oil drilling that is being setup just beyond their front doors.
WDIV is reporting that city official and residents are gearing up to fight the drilling that is being setup.
The building of the rig is perfectly legal and the meeting tonight is to determine what can be done to stop it as quickly as possible.
As long as the rig is 450 feet from each residence and the landowner or home builder releases the mineral rights, the department of environmental quality gives their permission to start drilling.
Residents want answers from West Bay Exploration, the company responsible for setting up the oil rigs. West Bay Exploration has not confirmed or denied that they will be in attendance at tonight’s meeting.
