CADILLAC, MI – A Caledonia Michigan woman was killed just outside of Cadillac, Michigan on Saturday, September 13th, 2014 in a crash that involved a vehicle that 24-year-old Nicole Aryn Popa was a passenger in and a semi.
The accident occurred shortly before 5:00 this morning on M-115 near South 39 Road in Wexford County.
State police say the driver of the car, Joshua Fournier, was traveling at a high rate of speed, and tried to avoid another car going the same direction.
Fournier attempted to go around the car, but lost control of the vehicle when it then skidded into the path of the semi-tractor trailer traveling northbound on M-115.
The Nicole Popa was sleeping in the back seat, and was ejected from the vehicle when the rear portion of the car was sheared off in the collision.
The suspected driver of the car, Joshua Fournier, tried to flee the scene of the crash, but was later caught, and treated for his minor injuries at a local hospital. He have since been arrested for leaving the scene and operating under the influence causing death.
Police believe alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the crash.
