DETROIT, MI – She was just riding her bike like any young child wants to do. Her innocence shattered by gun fire over an ‘alleged’ game of dice. India Williams remains in critical condition tonight and is fighting for her life.
Police say, shortly before 5:30 p.m. Sunday, September 14th, 2014, the 7-year-old girl was playing outside of a home in the 20400 block of Charest on the city’s east side when she was struck by a stray bullet.
Gunfire erupted in the neighborhood between two vehicles, one chasing the other at high speeds. Charest is just south of 8 Mile and east of I-75.
Family members have been told and believe the gun fire was the result over a game of dice a couple of blocks away. Police would not confirm those allegations.
One of the stray bullets struck the 7-year-old girl in her body.
Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens said the girl was in critical condition late Sunday. Stephens said police did not immediately have a description of the suspects or the vehicles.
