LAPEER COUNTY, MI – On Sunday, September 14th, 2014 at 3:20 AM, Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident on Youngs Road south of Imlay City Road in Attica Township.
David Fox, 28-years-old from Attica was operating a 2007 Chevrolet Impala south bound on Youngs Road. The vehicle left the pavement going off the shoulder of the roadway and traveled into a ditch. The vehicle struck a ditch culvert which resulted in the vehicle going airborne. The vehicle subsequently overturned and came to rest on its tires within the west ditch.
The passenger Ryan Wheeler, 30-years-old, from Attica was ejected during the accident. Fox was able to exit the vehicle after the collision. Shortly after David Fox exited the vehicle, it erupted in flames. The fire was extinguished by Attica Township Fire Department.
David Fox was transported to McLaren Lapeer Regional Medical Center where he is listed in serious condition. Ryan Wheeler was also transported to McLaren Lapeer Regional Medical Center where he is listed in serious condition with life threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation suggests that alcohol, excessive speeds, and no use of seat belts, are factors that contributed to the accident and injuries in the sustained during the crash.
The roadway was closed for approximately two and a half hours for rescue and investigative purposes. The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Imlay City Police Department, the Michigan State Police Lapeer Regional Post, and the Attica Township Fire Department.
