FORT GRATIOT TOWNSHIP, MI – The annual WSAQ Community Roof-Sit to raise money for the St. Clair County Child Abuse/Neglect Council is well underway at the Birchwood Mall in Fort Gratiot Township.
Yesterday, the 5 by 5 competition was held between the teams of Sheriff Donnellon and Prosecutor Mike Wendling vs. Community Mental Health Director Deb Johnson and former director Mike McCarten. The teams originally were given the task of trying to raise $5000 per team between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The competition has gone on to raise much more money than anticipated.
This year, according to WSAQ morning show host Chuck Santoni, about $45,000 was raised between the two teams. Santoni says the team of Sheriff Donnellon and Mike Wendling raised about $25,000, while the Deb Johnson, Mike McCarten team raised about $20,000. Chuck has been sitting on the roof of the mall since Sunday, raising money for the CAN Council. He will remain there until Friday afternoon.
“We are so blessed to have such great, giving hearts in this community,” said Sheriff Donnellon. “The four of us really enjoy the opportunity to sit on the roof with Chuck for a day to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.”
All of the money raised yesterday and throughout the week remains here in St. Clair County and goes directly to the Child Abuse/Neglect Council.
Chuck Santoni is still on the roof and still looking for donations. If you haven’t donated yet, please make a pledge by calling 1-866-852-KIDS, because “It shouldn’t hurt to be a child”. You can listen to the event by tuning into WSAQ, Q-Country 107.1.
