ALPENA, MI – Lee Kitzman has much to be proud of when it comes to organizing the first annual Folk Music Festival in Alpena. The festival kicked off this afternoon and runs all weekend.
There are 25 acts booked with over 50 musicians playing this weekend.
Musicians from as far away as Milwaukee have come to the area to play their music. But it is the local talent that the Folk Festival wants to showcase.
Kitzman stated that it was the goal of the festival organizers to showcase as much of the local talent from the Alpena area as possible.
Lee had a huge smile on his face as he pointed to an area where many were going to be camped out for the weekend with tents and travel trailers. He stated that every space was reserved. That is a wonderful accomplishment to get that many to attend a first ever event.
Another proud factor that Kitzman pointed out was a particular food vendor that will be on hand for the weekend. Agent Orange Riders will donate half of their proceeds to the medical care for kids who have been affected by Agent Orange. You can get a pulled pork sandwich, a soda and a bag of chips for only $5.
Take some time to relax and enjoy a weekend that promises to be absolutely beautiful in northeast Michigan. Take a lawn chair to enjoy some great music.
