Former U of D Jesuit High School Priest Charged with Child Porn


DETROIT, MI – Father Richard Kurtz was arrested by the FBI and has been charged with possession, production and transportation of child pornography.Father Richard James Kurtz

Kurtz was arrested Monday in Missouri.




The FBI alleges he secretly recorded players on the hockey team changing in locker rooms during the 1998-1999 season.

In 2011, priests going through his things in Chicago and in Clarkston, Michigan  made the shocking discovery of the video tapes he allegedly made of the boys in the locker room.

He was fired from the University of Detroit Jesuit High School in 2001 after being accused of sexually assaulting a student on a trip in Colorado.

Kurtz worked at the Society of Jesus Chicago-Detroit Province on North Clark Street in Chicago and is accused of assaulting the boy when he worked as a chemistry teacher in Detroit at the time of the alleged assault, but the crime reportedly occurred in a suburb of Denver.

Kurtz was arrested by the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force. He is being held on $100,000 bond and is awaiting an extradition hearing.
