Sanilac County Suspicious Death Ruled Homicide

MCGREGOR, MI – Sheriff Garry Biniecki advised that an autopsy was performed on 35-year-old Billy Chernow Jr. of McGregor this morning in Lapeer. Sanilac County Medical Examiner Dr. William Starbird confirmed the preliminary autopsy results, ruling the death as a homicide with the cause being a gunshot wound to the head. murder

The investigation began when Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 2000 block of East Forester Road in Sanilac County’s Bridgehampton Township on Sunday, October 12th at approximately 1:30 p.m. in response to a male subject found deceased in his bed by his neighbor.

Sheriff Biniecki stated, “I am sorry for the Chernow family’s loss, as this has been a shock to them, their friends and members of the community. We have made great progress over the past 48 hours and have confirmed some investigative leads, which only strengthen our belief that this was an isolated incident that does not appear to be random.

Neighbors and members of the community again are reminded to be vigilant and alert to their surroundings and encouraged to call 9-1-1 if they see something suspicious.
