According to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon, the crash occurred about 11:15am Wednesday, Ocotber 22, 2014 when a car driven southbound on Lakeshore by a 76-year-old woman from Lexington, crossed the centerline and struck head-on a mini-van driven by a 46-year-old woman, also from Lexington. The mini-van had two passengers, a 46-year-old woman and 4-year-old boy, both from Lakeport.
Authorities have identified Shirley Crawford as the 76-year-old Lexington woman who died in a crash on Lakeshore Road in Burtchville Township Wednesday.
The Crawford was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, while the other three were transported by Tri-Hospital EMS to McLaren Port Huron Hospital.
St. Clair County Sheriff Deputy Steve Campau, the department’s public information officer, said the four-year-old boy later was moved to another hospital via helicopter. Further information on his condition was not available.
Burtchville Township Fire and Rescue also assisted at the scene of the crash, which remains under investigation. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
Approximately a minute before the crash, a BOL was broadcast by St. Clair County Central Dispatch that the car being driven by Shirley Crawford nearly struck a semi-truck head on. Deputies were heading to the area when the call of the crash was made.
Lakeshore Road was closed for about two hours following the crash, but is now open to traffic.
