WESTLAND, MI – An individual was taken into custody around 8:30am near Grand River and Bagley in Detroit. No further information about this person is being released at this time.
Police were on the scene late Wednesday evening investigating the death of a woman, in her 30’s, inside a home in the 34800 block of Avondale.
The home is located near Cherryhill and Wayne.
The woman has been identified as 30-year-old Rachel Watson. She worked in Ann Arbor at Heartland Health Care Center.
The activity had put neighbors on high alert. Some of those neighbors waking up to learn of the events. They are stunned to learn something like this has happened in their usually quiet neighborhood.
The young woman lived in the home with her four young children. They have lived in the home for a couple of years. The children were inside of the home at the time of the murder but were not aware that a problem had occurred. The children range in age from 1 years old to 12 years old.
Some of her coworkers went to her home to check on her. The woman’s body was discovered when her boss became concerned when she didn’t show up for work on Wednesday evening. They notified her family who came to the house and let themselves in where they found her body in the basement.
Domestic violence is being looked at as a possible factor in this homicide.
Police indicated that her coworkers said that she was concerned that she was being followed or stalked by an ex-boyfriend who had lived in the home previously with the family.
Investigators gathered evidence inside of the house which they loaded into waiting vehicles. The Wayne County Medical Examiner did arrive and have removed the woman’s body to be taken back for an autopsy. It is believed that she was strangled to death but that is not yet confirmed.
