Vehicle Crash and Fire Kills Woman in Calhoun County

CALHOUN COUNTY, MI – On Wednesday October 22nd, 2014 at approximately 9:58 a.m. Central Dispatch received a 911 call from a passerby reporting a vehicle fire near the intersection of 13 Mile Road and S. Drive North in Convis Township. police-line-do-not-cross-investigation-graphic

The first Deputy on scene from the Convis Township detachment of the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department attempted to gain access to the interior of the vehicle through doors and windows but was unable due to extreme heat. Bellevue Fire Department was summoned to the scene to extinguish the fire.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was occupied by an unidentified female whom was pronounced dead on scene.

The Calhoun County Accident Investigation Team and Medical Examiner’s office were on scene for the investigation. The vehicle in question was traveling southbound on 13 Mile Road when it left the pavement and struck a tree on the west side of the roadway.

Speed does not appear to have been a factor in the crash. The vehicle in question was a white colored 2007 Dodge Caravan. The cause of the accident is unknown.
