ISABELLA COUNTY, MI – Clare County Sheriff’s Deputies tried to stop a red 1992 Chevrolet pickup on Friday, October 31st, 2014 about 12:30pm after the driver of the vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign in Farwell, Michigan.
According to the Clare County Sheriff’s Office the driver of the vehicle was driving erratically. Spike strips were deployed but the driver continued to flee. Deputies pursued the vehicle as it sped towards Clare County and then south to into Isabella County, police said.
The vehicle continued eastbound on Stevenson Lake Road. Shortly after the driver of the vehicle crossed Mission Road, the pickup truck crashed into a tree, catching on fire.
Authorities tried rescue efforts to put out the fire and remove the driver but were not successful.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Clare County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Michigan State Police, Clare City Police Department, Clare Fire Department, Mobile Medical Response Ambulance Service, and the Isabella County Sheriff Office.
The crash remains under investigation. The name of driver of the truck has not been released at this time.
