CEDAR SPRINGS, MI – In October 2014, the Cedar Springs City Council voted to approve a contract with the Kent County Sheriff Department (KCSD) to assume police duties for the City of Cedar Springs, effective Friday, November 7, 2014.
This contract is contingent on a vote by the Kent County Board of Commissioners during their November 6, 2014 Board meeting.
The new contract provides the City of Cedar Springs law enforcement services 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Cedar Springs Unit of the Kent County Sheriff Department will report to and work out of the Cedar Springs City Offices and work closely with the Cedar Springs City Manager’s Office.
Kent County Sheriff Department Sergeant Jason Kelley (an 11 year veteran) will assume the role as the Cedar Springs Unit supervisor overseeing law enforcement services.
The Kent County Sheriff Department recognizes the responsibility and trust the citizens and city officials of Cedar Springs have placed with the Kent County Sheriff Department. To honor the years of service and dedication of the Cedar Springs Police Department to the City of Cedar Springs and its citizens, a Change of Command Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, November 7, 2014, at 6pm at the Cedar Springs Public School Board Chambers, 3rd Floor, 204 East Muskegon, Cedar Springs, Michigan.
